The Southern Bluefin Tuna has gills which means it can breath under water. They can swim at an average speed of 2-3 km/hr and they are known to dive for at least 500 m. The average growth for a 3 year old Southern Bluefin Tuna is 1.5 cm per month (and since 1980, fish have been growing faster).
W.A.L.T: describe a New Zealand habitat and the animals that live there
My habitat is the Pacific Ocean.
It is linked to every single ocean in the world:
Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Southern Ocean, & the Indian Ocean.
At the bottom of the ocean, wavy seaweeds & colourful corals grow. It is also dark & scary. At the top of the ocean, a few ships & boats travel around. In the middle of the ocean, hundreds & thousands of fish swim here & there.
NZ FUR SEAL
The NZ Fur Seal is a native carnivore. Their skin is soft, leathery, & cold. Because it doesn’t have gills, it must come out to the surface to breath. It is a sea mammal.
The Hector’s Dolphins is a native sea mammal. Like the NZ Fur Seal, it doesn’t have gills which means they must come out of the water to breath. But the funny thing is that Hector’s Dolphins cannot come out of the water but they must come out to breath. Very weird !!! And when you see Hector’s Dolphins come out and dive, you might think they have come out to play & have fun, but actually, they are just coming out to breath. Very interesting animal!
SOUTHERN BLUEFIN TUNA
The Ocean Is A Good Habitat For These Animals Because:
It is an area where there is fresh salty water and the ocean is a really safe place for them (though there are a few predators).
How Can Man Help Keep This Habitat A Safe Home For Animals & Species?
When you are going to the beach, do not throw rubbish everywhere. Instead, put it in the bin (if there isn’t a bin, put it in a bag so you can take the rubbish home).
Here are some meanings of words you may not understand:

Mammal-A warm blooded animal that needs oxygen. An example is Humans. We can change our body temp.
Native-From NZ but can be found in other places/ countries.
